About Providence
  INTRODUCTION

"How you want to be treated" is the positioning statement that marks how Providence serves it patients, residents, staff and families. This also captures the underlying philosophy of the Centre for Healthy Aging at Providence. Focused on promoting evidence-based change for seniors health care, the Centre for Healthy Aging at Providence (CHAP) strives to improve the system so it can serve elderly patients in the way they want to be treated.

The Centre for Healthy Aging at Providence is a recognized leader within B.C. in seniors research. Unlike other academic centres, CHAP is unique in that it is part of Providence Health Care, a major health care provider. Such a relationship means:

  • We work closely with a wide range of care providers, researchers and decision-makers in practical settings on a daily basis;
  • We focus on practical issues ranging from the bedside to policy; and
  • We address seniors' health issues from the well elderly to frail seniors living in the community and in health care institutions.

Located within a care organization gives us the credibility we need to understand real issues faced by patients and providers and decision makers.
